Each year we go to England to visit family, we go to a small fishing village in the south west called Padstow. It is one of my favorite places. The beach is beautiful, there are fish and chips and ice-cream shops everywhere and it’s one of the only places where you can buy fresh shrimp in a cup and the elusive rhubarb apple custard pastie.

Due to my food allergies and diet, I can no longer eat the pasties, which are amazing! This means I opt for the shrimp now instead. I was pleasantly surprised this year when we came across a tiny little ice-cream shop called Roskilly’s Ice Cream.
My partner always likes to have his Devon clotted cream ice-cream with a Cadbury Flake. We were getting ready to leave and stopped in this one shop. The only thing I could have was a sherbet and I wasn’t feeling it.
I could say I get used to not having something when we are out and about, but it’s more annoying than anything. It almost makes me a little depressed. We walked a few stores over into Roskilly’s and first thing I noticed on their menu was “plant based ice-creams.” When you can’t eat dairy, vegan food is usually a win.
I asked the woman behind the counter for an ingredient list and she provided me with a large cardboard cut out that showed not one, but six flavors! I skimmed all the ingredients and realized I could eat all of them except one that contained nuts. For some reason, their website only lists coconut flavor and I can’t remember the other ones to share with you.
I opted for one scoop of the raspberry swirl in a cup as most places that have cones contain eggs. I was so excited to eat it and savored it all the way back to the car. It was creamy, smooth and not too sweet. The raspberry swirl gave it a good kick of flavor. If we hadn’t walked a ways, I would have gone back for another scoop.
I am so looking forward to going next year and trying out what else they have. I am glad we didn’t stop in the first shop, otherwise I wouldn’t have found this. Funny how things work out and this definitely made my day!
I give Roskilly’s Vegan Ice Cream a rating of 5 stars ★★★★★
